Dwaine D. Zahorik
Dwaine D. Zahorik, 73, Aurora, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at his home.
He was born February 6, 1940, in Two Rivers, Wis., son of the late George and Dora (Le Fleur) Zahorik. Dwaine grew up in Two Rivers and attended school there. He, along with his family, moved to Amberg, Wis., where they lived on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army and later the National Guard, retiring in 2000. He married Dianna Schabel , December 7, 1963, in Iron Mountain and they most recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After their marriage they resided in Two Rivers. Dwaine worked for Hamilton Manufacturing Company in Two Rivers for many years. He along with his wife moved to Aurora in 1973. While living in Aurora, Dwaine worked as a truck driver for Grede Foundry and later Rock Transfer, retiring in 2008.
Dwaine served as a volunteer for the Aurora Fire Department, enjoyed making children laugh as he played Santa Clause and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed growing roses, cutting firewood and camping and he could always be found making people laugh. His family was very important to him and he was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Dianna; one son, Scott (Margo Wisniewski) Zahorik, Aurora; two daughters, Carlene Zahorik, Homestead, Wis., Kristina (Thomas) Williams, Florence, Wis.; two brothers, Alex (Rose) Zahorik, Crivitz, Wis. and Robert (Sandy) Zahorik, Crivitz; three sisters, Nadine Chandler, Washington State, Yvonne (Dennis) McDonald, Two Rivers and Kay (Dennis) Elfstrom, Amberg; one son-in-law, Lyle (Barb) Merrill, Channing, Mich.; one brother-in-law, Oscar Stuart, Washington State; six grandchildren, Seth (Dannielle Poston), Beth, Jacob, Kati, Rebecca and Gabriel; two great-grandchildren, Eris and Matthew; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Dwaine was preceded in death by one daughter, Carrie Merrill; three brothers, George, Richard and William Zahorik; two sisters, Marlene Drossart and Barbara Stuart and one granddaughter, Zoey.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 28, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. American Legion Uren-Cooper Johnson Post No. 50 will offer Veteran’s Military Services, Saturday, 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
