Obituary for Ronald Wayne Amour

Ronald Wayne Amour, 67, of DeWitt, Mich., formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at his home in DeWitt, with his wife, Jan and daughter Meggan at his side.

He was born April 11, 1947, in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Fredrick and Madeline (Gagnon) Amour.

Ronald grew up in Crystal Lake Ill. and Island Lake, Ill. He graduated from McHenry High School, Class of 1965 where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), Milwaukee, Wis. Ron owned and operated dry cleaning businesses in Illinois for many years. He was a traveling photographer for the Chicago Bears, from 1979 to 1993. During his time with the Chicago Bears, Ron developed many friendships, some of which included Tony and Karl, Equipment Managers for the team and Leslie Frazier, Jeff Fisher and Ron Rivera. He also worked in Lake County, Ill., as a microfilm developer. He married Jan Pratt on June 10, 1995, on the Michigan Princess Riverboat, Lansing, Mich. They moved to Iron Mountain in 1996 and the two enjoyed sixteen years in the Iron Mountain-Kingsford area. During that summer, Ron was a full time volunteer at Bay Cliff Health Camp. He worked at Express Cleaners in Iron Mountain where he did tailoring and alterations. From 2005 until 2008, Ron enjoyed providing care while working for TLC.

Ron’s encouraging and supporting ways allowed his daughter Meggan, the light of his life, to follow her dream of attending a full time tennis academy in Hilton Head, S.C.

He is survived by his wife, Jan of DeWitt; one son, Rylan (Heidi) Amour and their son Nolan, Holt, Mich.; one daughter, Meggan Amour, DeWitt; one brother, Lee Amour, Republic, Mich.; one aunt, Jeanne Roberts, Oconomowoc, Wis. and very special friends, Jon, Sonya, Jonathan, Andrew, Zach and Bethany Edlund, Norway, Mich.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2014, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. A Celebration of Ron’s Life will take place, 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
