Obituary for Alfio G. Cini

Alfio G. Cini
Alfio G. Cini, 83, of Iron Mountain, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Bellin Memorial Hospital, Green Bay, Wis.

He was born June 1, 1932, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Louis and Doris (Carollo) Cini, Sr.

Alfio grew up in Iron Mountain and attended school there. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army; he served with the Eleventh Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Milwaukee where he met and married Mary Ann Casey, in July of 1955, in Chisholm, Minn. The couple then made their home in Iron Mountain, where they celebrated 40 years of marriage before her death on November 26, 1995.

He will be remembered for being a hard working mechanic at the Groveland Mine for 23 years until its closing. Alfio then ran the Coachlight Restaurant-Tavern with his sister and the Cini’s Family Market on the Northside of Iron Mountain; he also bartended for many years at the Pine Mountain Lodge. Al had an interest in and boarded horses on the Pine Mountain Road. He served several terms on the Iron Mountain City Council. Al was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain.

Alfio enjoyed hunting deer and rabbits, taking trips out west to hunt pheasants, playing cards and cribbage and hosting gambling bus runs to the local casinos. Al enjoyed Florida winters, where he especially enjoyed fishing and refurbishing fishing poles for school kids. He was a people magnet and really enjoyed talking with people anywhere and everywhere. He always said “if you have friends you don’t need money.” Al was looking forward to building an ice shack, this winter, to teach the “kids” how to fish. Alfio, Uncle FaFa, Nono will be missed, loved and remembered by his large loud family and many friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Vanessa (Steve) Liscomb, Amasa, Mich. and their children, Mercedes (Aaron) Maki and Cassandra (Justin) Liscomb. Tammy (Dave) Hodgins, Homestead, Wis. and their children, Patrick (Ashley) Hodgins, Benjamin Hodgins, Steve (Dayna) Hodgins. Tina (Kevin) Hicks, Kingsford, and their children, Kelly (Stephen) Aldridge, Corina (Chad) Koeberl. Kelly (Dan) Bianco and their children, Santina, Geno and Mariana; great grandchildren, Blake, Angelo, Jacob, Eero, Ali, Ruby, Ada and baby girl, Koeberl, due in March; sisters-in-law, Gladys Cini and Julia Cini; brothers-in-law, Ed (Claudia) Casey, Bob (Becky) Casey, Patrick (Helen) Casey and Jim (Sunny) Casey; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; special friend, Sis Burgess and best friend, since they were 7 years old, Byron Johnson.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mary Ann, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Amedio and Louis, Jr.; one sister, Rosemarie Cini Kuehl and his father and mother-in-law, Everett and Mary Casey.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 7, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain at a later date.

The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain to honor Alfio’s legacy of life.
