Alpha, Michigan - Harry Francis (Moe) Mielcarek, 74, of Alpha, passed away May 17, 2016, at his home.

He was born November 23, 1941, in Chicago, IL, son of the late Harry and Leona (Thomas) Mielcarek.

Harry was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from high school there in 1959. He married Sonia Kapustianyk on September 24, 1961, in Chicago; she preceded him in death on November 1, 2014. While living in Chicago, he was a member of the union where he worked as a roofer. In November of 1974, he and his family moved to Alpha and he continued to work as a self-employed roofer and handyman in Iron County and in the Chicago area.

He was always the life of the party. Harry adored his wife and loved his family, especially his 12 grandchildren and his newborn great-grandson he was recently able to meet. He was an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan.

Harry is survived by his three daughters, LeeAnn (Al) Saario of Alpha, Cheryl (Tony) Fonash of Perryville, Md., and Lisa (Dan) Southwick of Madison Heights, Mich.; one son, Mark (Sue) Mielcarek of Iron Mountain; one sister, Betty Scianna of Scottsdale, Ariz.; twelve grandchildren, Daniel Southwick, Dana Southwick (Anthony Valdivia) , Tyler Southwick, Jamie Lee James, Justin James, Tony Fonash, Kayla (Matt) Swift , Erin Fonash, Nick Fonash, David Mielcarek, Nicole Mielcarek, and Michael Saario and one great-grandson, Anthony Valdivia, and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Moe.

A Memorial Service in honor of Harry will be held at a later date.

The family has chosen the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls to honor Harry’s Legacy of Life.
