Obituary for Warren A. "John" Carney

Florence-Warren A. “John” Carney, 81, of Florence, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 at Golden Living Center, Florence, Wisc.

He was born May 20, 1935 in Battle Creek, Mich., son of the late Alonzo and Catherine (Hall) Carney. Warren grew up and attended school in Battle Creek. John served in the United States Army and after being Honorably Discharged lived in Milwaukee. He worked for American Motors in Milwaukee for many years and he met and married Janet Nichols on October 26, 1962 in Milwaukee. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. They raised their family in Battle Creek. John worked for Smith & Graham Roofing Company for many years and in 1985 he and Janet moved to Florence, where he enjoyed his retirement.

He enjoyed golf and his bowling league, was an avid reader but most of all cherished the time spent with his family and especially his new grandson, Jacob.

John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janet; two sons, Scott (Melissa) Carney, Iron Mountain, Mich. and Jason Carney, Florence; one brother, Richard (Linda) Carney, Union City, Mich.; three grandchildren, Shaala, Grace and Jacob; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy; one sister, Susan Babcock and two brothers, Bill Carney and Jerry Creller.

Private family graveside services will be held. Burial will be in Commonwealth Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wisc
