Obituary for Gary William Hooper

Gary William Hooper passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 62 on March 26, 2017, in the Iron Mountain Michigan Veterans Hospital.

Gary was born in Stambaugh, Mich., on April 27, 1954, son of William and Marcille Hooper. He grew up with three sisters and two nieces. While growing up he spent much of his time in upper Michigan with a short period of time in Idaho. He joined the Army young in his life going to Germany; while there in 1973 he earned a Blue Citation Award for his honorable behavior in saving a young woman. After returning from the service he spent a lot of time with his family and his youngest sister and nieces. He has always had a great love for music singing songs to the family even when embarrassing them in public.

He has always made time and has been very good with children. Full of fun and jokes through his whole life. He was an important part of the lives of his children and younger sisters. His nieces and nephews also held a special place in his heart.

He spent some time in Kansas living with his eldest son Keith before returning to his roots in the Upper Peninsula. With his declining health, he was very happy to attend his son Craig and new bride Stacy’s wedding last summer.

Gary was a fortunate person to have a wonderful friend Dennis Sanchez who helped him all the way to the end of his time. The family would like to acknowledge him and thank him for all his help and thoughtfulness.

He is survived by three sons; Keith Hooper, Craig Hooper (Stacy), Todd Hooper, one grandchild, Siera Hooper, his father, William Hooper; one sister Rhonda Hooper; two nieces Tammy LaDuron (Mark), Dannilynn McCoy (Craig); two great nieces Crystale Poquette, Kaylen Nance and by five great nephews Joseph Poquette, Kyle Murray, Brad Murray, Shane LaDuron and Christopher Nance

Gary was preceded in death by his infant son, Chad Hooper, two sisters, Karen Hooper and Billie Jo Hooper and by his mother, Marcille Hooper.
