Obituary for Angeline C. "Angie" Mindok (Schiavo)

Angeline C. "Angie" Mindok (Schiavo)
Angeline C. “Angie” Mindok, age 95, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, at Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, Mich.
She was born on July 22, 1921, in Crystal Fal
ls, daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Pedranzen) Schiavo. Angie was the first daughter in a family of sixteen children. At age 18, she went to Chicago where she worked as a live-in nanny on Lakeshore Drive. There she met the love of her life, George Mindok, another Crystal Falls native. Angie and George were married on August 1, 1942, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. They moved to Port Angeles, Washington for four years early in their marriage, returning to Crystal Falls to be with their families. George preceded her in death on May 2, 2004.

Angie and George were blessed with three children; Elizabeth “Betty”, Johnny and George Jr. Angie was a devoted and compassionate mother who faced difficult circumstances with the complicated medical needs and disabilities of her two boys. Her strong spirit, fierce love, and her Catholic faith guided her. As the oldest girl in a large Italian family, homemaking skills where second nature to Angie. She was baking bread, hanging out laundry, running to town for her mother, and caring for the youngest sibling from the age of 14. Angie was always happy when she was baking, cooking, canning, making jam, and homemade pasta. Often, she took an afternoon “break” to bring fresh garden produce or baked goods to the neighbors. Their home on Forest Avenue was open from morning till night for anyone who wanted to drop in for a visit. Angie also enjoyed archery, fishing, playing bingo, smear and cribbage. She started bowling at age 70. Angie was a member of Guardian Angels Altar Guild and served at funeral lunches and church bazars. She loved to read, write letters, raise African Violets, and take daily walks.

Anyone who knew Angie will remember her laugh and her fun filled, energetic, caring personality and her desire to help her family and friends. Angie’s daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy throughout her life and she lived for their visits. She spoiled them by making their favorite meals and pies, all in advance of their visits so she could give them her full attention when they arrived. Angie was a kid at heart and she adored children.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty (Gordon) Dybdahl, Madison, Wis.; one granddaughter, Melanie (John) Patterson, Oregon, Wis.; three great-grandchildren, Marc, Maisie and Lana Patterson; four sisters, Olga (John) Cocco, Carney, Mich., Ida Nelson, Crystal Falls, Mich., Veronica Malecha, Mt. Prospect, Ill. and Anita Smith, Las Cruces, N.M.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, George, Angie was preceded in death by two sons, John and George Mindok; grandson, Marc Dybdahl; seven brothers, John, Cesar, Albino, Carmello, Lawrence, Clarence and Peter and by one sister, Carmen Korpi.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls, Mich. Prayers will be recited Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angel’s Catholic Church, Crystal Falls, Mich. Rev. Fr. Dan Malone will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, Mich.

Memorials have been suggested to United Cerebral Palsy of Dane County.

Angie’s family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff of Iron County Medical Care Facility where she lived among “friends” for 11 years. Special thanks to nurse Karen, CNA Jodie, social worker Jackie, and the diversional therapy staff. You have made a difference in Angie’s quality of life.
