Obituary for Raymond Joseph Schinderle

Iron Mountain-Raymond Joseph Schinderle, 80, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mich.

Ray was born on December 26, 1936 in Iron Mountain, Mich., son of the late Joseph and Mary (Andreoli) Schinderle. He was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1955. Ray married Donna Romagnoli on February 24, 1968, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. He along with his mom owned and operated Schinderle’s Bakery for over 52 years. Ray along with his wife, Donna, owned and operated Schinderle’s Italian Maid Bake Shoppe, Iron Mountain, for 27 years, specializing in fresh Italian bread, cornetti and old fashioned hard rolls. Ray enjoyed hearing comments from the people who missed the Schinderle bakery products. He had a love for baking since the young age of 15. While growing up he was an excellent baseball pitcher and when the Chicago Cubs came to town to evaluate talent he was unable to attend the camp as he was too busy working.

Ray enjoyed camping with his family, pitching baseball, working hard, taking long naps, cooking for the guys at camp, going to the casino, hand feeding “mama deer” in his yard, and watching sports and animal shows. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family, friends, and grandchildren. Ray was a well-mannered easy-going man.

He is survived by wife, Donna; two daughters, Daeaun (Steve) Messer, Plymouth, Minn. and Kelly (Jeff) Melcher, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; one brother, Bob (Martha) Schinderle, Portage, Mich.; three grandchildren, Jack Messer, Beau and Paige Melcher; many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Schinderle.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 20, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Mich.
