He was born March 1, 1918, on a farm in Hamilton Township, Mich., son of the late Louis and Matie (Langley) Lee. Dick was told as soon as he was born he was wrapped in blankets, put into a leather suitcase and took for his first sleigh ride to the doctors in Decatur, Mich. His family didn’t have a car, electricity or indoor plumbing at the time. Dick attended a one-room school house until age eight. He was known as the “ice man”. Dick made a ton and half of ice cubes in a garage with his three ice machines. He delivered for 25 to 30 years and is still called this nickname to this day. Along with the ice business, Dick worked for several local businesses as a bookkeeper and accountant. He also drove bus for special education kids during the day and drove the bus at night for the football players and cheerleaders for about 10 years. He received a life-time pass to all the Iron Mountain sporting events.

Dick enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved going to his cottage at 6 Mile Lake and to the Fornetti hunting camp in Pine Creek where he was chief cook and camp superintendent. He was a member of the Elks, Masons and United Commercial Travelers.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Earl) Morris, Sue (Mike) Fornetti and Mary Jane (Jim) LaHaie; seven grandchildren, Mark and Susan Bray, Deb (Doug) Peer, John Bray, Pamela (Mike Weber) Morris, Dr. Willa (Dr. Jeremy Bell) Fornetti, and Tony (Jackie) Fornetti; and by six great-grandchildren, Chloe, Lucy, and Chase Fornetti, Marin and Amelia Bell and Payton Bray; one brother-in-law, Bill (Karen) Burgess; and nephews.

In addition to his parents, and wife, Marie, Dick was preceded in death by one brother.
