Iron Mountain-Dale M. Larsen, 91, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at Manorcare Nursing & Rehab Center, Kingsford, Mich.

He was born December 18, 1925, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Arthur and Edna (Bull) Larsen. He grew up in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1943. Dale enlisted into the United States Marines, serving in WWII and was wounded by shrapnel. Then he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served another 3 years. Lastly he joined the United States Army, serving from 1950 until 1953. Sgt. Larsen was awarded the Silver Star after being seriously wounded in the Korean Conflict. He spent six months in an army hospital before returning to duty. He also received several Purple Hearts for his heroism in battle.

On January 20, 1968, he was united in marriage to Gloria Furno, in Oconto, Wis. Together, they were able to winter in Reno, Nev., and later Ocean Springs, Miss. They also traveled to such diverse places as Washington, D.C., New Mexico, and California, to name a few. Gloria preceded him in death on August 8, 2012.

Dale was the bank president of First National Bank in Niagara and a member of the American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post #136. He enjoyed both hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Lynn Cartier, Seymour, Wis., his grand-daughters, Donna, Kirsten, Megan and Marcie; Step-Daughter, Linda (Joseph) Tripp, Pembine, Wis. and Joe’s children, Cindy, Suzanne, Bonnie, Sally, Joe and Marijane; numerous great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Gloria, Dale was preceded in death by one brother, Merle Larsen; one sister, Nina Hinderman; and son-in-law, Joel Cartier.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home-Niagara Chapel, Niagara, Wis. A memorial service will be take place at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post #136, Niagara, Wis. will accord military honors at 11:30 a.m. at Niagara Cemetery, Niagara, Wis.
