Obituary for Geraldine M. Dupuis (Senecal)

Niagara-Geraldine M. Dupuis, Mother Extraordinaire, has walked on. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 was the day and date for her spirit to be set free. At age 87, Mom walked on at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mi. We are now orphans but know that, being the terrific Mother she was, she will continue to watch over us, guide us, and someday welcome us again with open arms.

Mom was born at home in Niagara, WI on September 12, 1930 the youngest child of Martha (Radziej) and James LeRoy Senecal. She is the last surviving member of her family. She attended Niagara Public School except during WWII where she attended McKinley Middle School and one year at the Girls' Trades and Technical High School- both in Milwaukee, WI before returning to Niagara to re-enroll. While at the Milwaukee, WI high school Geraldine was busy with extracurricular war time newspaper drives, rolling bandages for Red Cross, and organizing war trophies from the Pacific sent in to students from family and boyfriends. Geraldine's Dad enlisted in the Seabees as Chief Petty Officer along with her brother who was in the Army.

When Geraldine met her Marine, Robert J. Dupuis Sr. in Niagara, WI on the way to a dance at the old Masonic Temple they were deeply smitten with each other. Nearly 63 years later they could describe what each was wearing when they met. They were united in marriage on a warm November 29th, 1947. The 5 children born to them were willing taste testers for Mom's out of this world cookies, pies, cakes, breads, candy and meals.

All of nature was important to Mom and she especially enjoyed observing the winged ones (birds), along with always stating how empty the world would be without flowers. Because of her great love for flowers, she planted and grew many beautiful varieties. Mom loved all the green spaces that Northern WI and the UP of MI afforded; especially parks. She cherished spending time with her family.

Geraldine was a voracious reader from an early age and every spare moment she had a book in her hand, including while stirring the kettle on the stove. She enjoyed tv and computer documentaries; especially learning what had not been presented to her in school, expanding upon that knowledge.

In later years another interest of Mom's was genealogy. She was so pleased to confirm her Native American heritage discovering it came from both her Mother and Father. Besides the knowledge of Iroquois, through DNA, research and records, she was able to trace her Cherokee roots. She loved each new discovery.

This synopsis of Mom's life would not be complete unless it was stated that she loved to research recipes, volunteered for a time at the Niagara Senior Center and loved their spaghetti dinners. She loved flying with Dad even when he did his barnstorming aerobatics; one of the few who did not get air sick. Mom walked hand-in-hand with Dad until they could walk no more. Mom was a very gentle soul, wanting peace in her life and in the world.

Geraldine is survived by Sunni Dupuis, Niagara, Daniel Dupuis, Niagara, Kristine Dupuis Harrison, Iron Mountain, MI, Bob Dupuis Jr., Kingsford, MI and Donna (Gene) Leslie, Niagara and eight grandchildren: Zachary Mills, Nicholas (Liz) Dupuis, Christopher Dupuis, Holly Schaut, Aaron Cramer, Cammie Rose Cramer(Jeremy Jansen) Jason Leslie, Brian (Joanna) Leslie, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is further survived by special friends Carol and Wayne Nault, Escanaba, MI.

In addition to her parents and husband Robert, Geraldine was preceded in death by an infant daughter, one grandson, Jessie Cramer, two brothers, Earl and George Senecal and three sisters: Delores Joerres, Esther Taylor and Jean Schopp, sister-in-law Pauline Senecal and son-in-law Dennis R. Harrison.
