Obituary for Irene Rose Rahoi (Minucci)

Iron Mountain-Irene Rose Minucci Rahoi, 98, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away on February 19, 2018 at ManorCare, Kingsford, Mich.

Irene was born November 27, 1919 in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late James and Vincenza (Baldinelli) Minucci. She was the 3rd Irene so it was confusing sometimes. She attended the Iron Mountain schools. Irene married Walter Rahoi. Walter preceded her in death in 2000.

Irene was a longtime member of St. Mary St Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. She worked in the kitchen for all the church events. Irene enjoyed cooking and spending time at her church and with her family. Her grandchildren especially loved her gnocchi’s.

Irene always wanted to pitch in to help in the family finances and worked at the license bureau, LaRozina’s, Dickinson Inn, Perfex and the Iron Mountain voting board. She was also an avid fan of the Strand’s adventures in softball and attended most of the games. Irene enjoyed riding in the golf cart and watching her family play golf. Her favorite baseball players were DiMaggio, Rizzuto and Yogi Berra.

Irene was a great cook and baker and she loved cooking for the family; meat raviolis and fried chicken with caramel pie were the holiday favorites. She also loved going to the park to look and feed the animals, especially Bruno the bear.

Irene loved to travel when she could; her favorite trip was to England to visit with her oldest granddaughter and her children. Being in a car that drove on the opposite side of the road was the craziest thing she ever witnessed.

Irene is survived by her son, Dennis (Fay) Rahoi of Iron Mountain and her daughter, Janis (Dennis) Strand of Kingsford, a brother James (Carol) Minucci of Florida, 3 grandchildren, Janis Norman, Audra Rahoi Dunn and Mari Rahoi Tuohy. She enjoyed her 7 great-grandchildren; Michael, Daniel, Kelsey and Thomas Norman, Amanda and Hailey Tuohy and Connor Dunn; and one great-great-grandchild, Adalynn. Her extended family included the Strand’s golden and black retrievers.

In addition to her parents and husband, Walter, Irene was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain Mich. The funeral service will be held Thursday, 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Januscz Romanek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
