Obituary for Patrick Joseph Ryan

Niagara-Patrick J. Ryan, 82, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at his home.

He was born March 27, 1935, in Houndswood, Cross in the parish of Cong Co Mayo, Ireland, the second eldest of nine children to the late Thomas and Annie (O’Brien) Ryan. Patrick attended Cross National School and later worked on the farm, the Electricity Board and in land reclamation. At age 20 he, along with his 17 year old sister, Kathleen, moved to London and worked as a laborer in construction. Sadly, Patrick had a serious motorbike accident in London and spent an extended period of time in Barnet Hospital with his injuries. His sister met her husband Jimmy and remained in London so Patrick traveled alone to his aunt in Chicago in 1957. He worked as an engineer for a gas power plant for 30 years, retiring in 2001. Patrick married Bridger Staunton also from Co Mayo in 1968. Sadly Bridget passed away suddenly in 1998 and Patrick went through a particularly bad period in his life where his two dogs, Reggie and Sassi, were his pride and joy. He moved home to Des Plaines, Ill and served for a period in the army. In November of 2007 his life took a different course and he lived between Chicago and Niagara for a period of time until he moved permanently to Niagara in his later years, until his sudden death on 2018.

He loved watching television and going for walks and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Niagara.
