Obituary for Joyce E. Wilhelmi (Sternhagen)

Florence-Joyce E. Wilhelmi, age 90, of Florence, Wis., was called to Heaven by her Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Florence Health Services, Florence, Wis.

She was born January 6, 1928, in Florence, daughter of the late Frederick and Marguerite (Taff) Sternhagen. Joyce grew up in Florence and was a graduate of Florence High School. She was united in marriage to Walter Wilhelmi on July 23, 1954, in Florence. Joyce was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was very involved with the Ladies Aide, the Alter Guild and had taught Sunday School.

She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Most of all she enjoyed watching her humming birds and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Walter; two daughters, Cheri (Vilas) Schroeder, Peshtigo, Wis., and Paula (Richard) Leffler, Florence, Wis.; six grandchildren, Luke (Gail) and Matthew (Jodie) Schroeder, Sarah (Chad) Steinke, Kasey (David) Gaston, Rachel (Adam) Porath and Jim Wilhelmi; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Winnie Mindel, Neenah, Wis. and Nita Derocher, Menominee, Mich.

In addition to her parents Joyce was preceded in death by one son, Mark in 2014; one brother, Lloyd Sternhagen; two sisters, Audrey Bailey and Marion Hughes; and by a grandson, Adam Schroeder in 2003.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Florence, Wis. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. the church. Pastor Jason Liebenow will officiate.

Memorials can be made to St. John Evangelical Church in Joyce’s name.

The family has chosen the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence, to honor Joyce’s legacy of life.
